What to expect on tour

 

Road Surfaces
All tours follow tar or asphalt roads all the way (unless you are doing a custom tour) Our roads are generally of good quality.. Please note that in South Africa we drive on the left hand side of the road.

For those of you that like to ride off-road we do have some off-road options available on some rest days. These routes are good hard-pack dirt- if the roads are ever more technical then this your guide will let you know and give you the option to take an alternative route

Accommodation
We make use of 3-4 star B&B establishments on all tours other than the Luxury "Spas and Safaris Tour" which makes use of 4 to 5 star establishments. All Self Guided motorcycle tours can be upgraded to 4 to 5 star accommodation or downgraded to backpacker/camping lodgings (Pricing available on request). All Accommodation is scouted out and chosen by the SAMA Team for comfort, beautiful locations and great atmosphere.

Daily distances
On average we drive between 200-450 km per day. As a rule we stop at least every 100km to stretch our legs, have a snack or visit an attraction. We usually have lunch at great little restaurants along the way. As a rule we travel very scenic roads  that meander through the South African Landscape and try stay away from highways or main roads as much as possible

Optional activities
While most tours have an array of included activities- we like to give you a choice as to which optional activities to take part in. You will receive a list of optional activities before a tour so that you can choose which ones you would like to do. Our most popular optional activities include the following:

• Microlighting in Mpumalanga
• Horse riding in St. Lucia
• Whale Watching in St. Lucia (Seasonal)
• Bridge swing at Oribi Gorge
• Abseiling/ quad biking in the Wild Coast
• Bungee Jumping in Knysna
• Sailing in Knysna
• Riding elephants in Knysna
