Superbike 2009 Update
The Superbike world championship kicked off in Phillip Island, Australia on the 1st March 2009
Japanese rider Noriyuki Haga got the better of German Rider Neukirchner (Suzuki) on the final lap of the race, securing is 34th Win.

Noriyuka Haga wont the first race of the season
The First race was great for BMW, who has entered their BMW S1000RR Into the superbikes for the first time. This year Troy Corser is riding for them and he managed to pull off 8th Place after starting on the 5th row of the grid. He also rode the fastest lap of the race @ 1’32’726.

Troy Corser wowed spectators all over the world when he came in 8th after a starting position of 17th place on the grid
In the second race, Ben Spies came out to play on his Yamaha R1. This 24 year old rookie from Texas, fought it out with Haga all the way until a few laps from the end, when he pulled away and powered towards the flag.
So what happened to Spies in the first round? He ended up in the gravel after the 2nd turn but returned to the track to finish just outside the points in 16th Place

Ben Spies started off really badly in the first race- but since then, has won every single one- he is a force to be reckoned with
The 14th March saw the World Superbikes, doing it Sahara style in Losail, Qatar. This desert venue did not disappoint.
The first race started off well with Max Biaggi and Hagga in the lead. Ben Spies overtook them with 6 laps to go and managed to pull away and win. Hagga and Biaggi then battled it out to the very end, with Haga taking second place after Spies.
Troy Corser scored an impressive 9th Place for BMW.
The second race of the day had the exact same podium as the first race.
This time Spies took control early and gradually pulled away during the race. Once again their was a scrap between Biaggi and Haga, with Haga beating him in the end

The Losail leg of the world Championship saw 2 identical podiums with Spies in 1st, Haga in 2nd and Biaggi in 3rd
Because Spies didn’t score any points in the first race, Haga is at the lead of the Championship
The results are:
